Applicant: Jintan City, Jiangsu Province
Giant dragon is a kind of "Dragon Dance" spread around jucun, Zhixi town. It originated from jucun and is huge because of its strong body, so it is called "giant dragon".
Dragon began in the Ming Dynasty and has a history of more than 600 years. It was first made of straw, about 15 to 30 meters long, and danced by seven or eight or nearly twenty people. In the early years of the Republic of China, bamboo strips were gradually used to tie the skeleton with dragon scale like cloth and lighting. The dragon body is also growing gradually. At present, each section of the dragon is 2 meters. The longest dragon body has 100 sections, with a total length of more than 200 meters. It needs more than 100 people to perform together.
Giant dragon's performance is ingenious, and the convergence and progression of routines are very compact. There are dozens of traditional routines.
The main artistic features of giant dragon are lively dance, round dance, true expression, many routines and fast speed.
