Ruichang is located in the north and west of Jiangxi Province, on the South Bank of the middle reaches of the Yangtze River. There are more than 60000 mu of mangosteen here, including nearly 10 species of bamboo, such as moso bamboo, Jinzhu, Shuizhu, etc. Ruichang bamboo weaving technique has a long history. The bamboo baskets used to transport ores were unearthed from the smelting sites of ancient copper mines in Shang and Zhou dynasties. For thousands of years, through the inheritance and development of countless artists, Ruichang bamboo weaving has formed its own unique style.

Ruichang bamboo weaving process is complex, the weaving requirements are high, the difficulty is large, and the variety is various, so it is difficult to use modern machine production to replace the related weaving work. In Ruichang, bamboo weaving is indispensable everywhere and all the time. Bamboo weaving technology is closely related to people's life. The main products of Ruichang bamboo weaving include bed, table, chair, stool, cabinet, dustpan, rice sieve, basket, mat, etc. in recent years, more than 100 varieties of flower bowl, flower basket, chicken, duck, turtle, fruit box, birds and animals, gift box, etc. have been developed. These bamboo products are exquisite, beautiful and practical, which are rare crafts.

At present, this traditional handicraft is gradually going out of the forest area and entering the modern metropolis for development. But on the other hand, Ruichang bamboo weaving skills are complex and difficult to master, so young people are reluctant to learn and inherit, while old artists are getting older, and many people are unable to continue to work. Ruichang bamboo weaving technology is lack of successors, and its prospect is worrying, so it is in urgent need of rescue and protection.
