Introduction to Sichuan Yangqin

Sichuan Yangqin is one of the quyi music varieties in Chongqing and Sichuan. Both of them have the same melody music system, but also have their own inheritance and development context and tone characteristics.

Since the Qing Dynasty, the storytelling and singing of Tanci quyi in the South has been separated from that of Dagu or Gushu in the north. They all belong to the storytelling and singing of Tanci quyi. They are combined with the local operas in Chongqing and Chengdu, resulting in the "Yangqin" storytelling and singing music in Sichuan. During the reign of Emperor Guangxu of Qing Dynasty, Chongqing (also known as Yuzhou) belonged to the "Zhou Diao" faction of "Yangqin". In Ba county annals of Chongqing, "Fu Qi Yang Qin" should be regarded as "Zhou Diao". In 1937, during the period when Chongqing was the capital, folk artists gathered in Chongqing, and there were a lot of "Yangqin" troupes competing to perform in the opening stage, which not only made a living but also won fame. Yangqin was innovated and developed. Especially in the communication with the artists of Sichuan Opera, or directly sing huqin opera with their libretto, or the exiled artists of Sichuan Opera change to "Yangqin", etc., the "Yangqin" is popular in tea houses and restaurants. During the Anti Japanese War, Chongqing "public education center" gathered and influenced a large number of folk artists, including some famous dulcimers, who publicized Anti Japanese and national salvation and encouraged patriotic enthusiasm. In the 1940s, Chongqing had re Yangqin society, shuyaqin drama society and so on. Since the 1950s, dulcimer artists have become famous all over the city and suburbs. Since 1951, Chongqing Yangqin and other kinds of folk arts and artists have inherited and cultivated generations of Yangqin successors and retained a large number of traditional music items and programs from the "study meeting of opera and folk arts artists", "singing and production group of folk arts", "folk art team" to "Chongqing folk Art Troupe". Chongqing and Sichuan dulcimer has a long history of inheritance, coexistence of factions and inheritors. The history of Yangqin in Chongqing and Sichuan has lasted for more than one hundred years.
