Brief introduction of lead and tin engraving technology:
Applicant: Jingzhou City, Hubei Province
The technique of lead and tin carving is a kind of mould making technique used by the Ao family in Jingzhou to make and copy ancient bronzes. This skill has been handed down from generation to generation in the Ao family, and it has been recorded in the genealogy for five generations.
The unique feature of lead and tin engraving technique lies in the fineness and fluency of making and copying the patterns of ancient bronzes. The patterns of bronzes cast with lead and tin engraving technique are very similar to those unearthed from ancient bronzes.
Using the unique properties of lead and tin, the technique combines the plane decoration with the three-dimensional, twisted and hollowed out shapes, and combines the shape of utensils with the shape of animals through striking, twisting, weaving, extruding, carving and other techniques in the design pattern, so as to finally complete the exquisite model.
The technology of lead and tin carving provides an excellent example for the study of mold making technology of ancient Chinese bronzes, which has high historical value and practical value for the authenticity restoration of ancient Chinese bronzes.
At present, the art of lead and tin carving depends on the reproduction of ancient bronzes and meets the needs of national cultural relics to repair ancient artifacts. Therefore, it is difficult to inherit the art. It is urgent to protect and inherit the art of lead and tin carving.
