Clay sculpture (Yang family clay sculpture) Introduction:

Applicant: Longde County, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region

Longde County is located in the south of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, at the West foot of Liupan. Longde folk sculpture originated in the Tang and Song Dynasties and matured in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. As early as Shaoxing in the Song Dynasty, Longde sculpture was well-known all over the world. The Yang Qihe family in Yangpo village, Wenbao Township, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, which is known as the "sculpture family" in Shaanxi Gansu Ningxia region, is the representative of Longde sculpture. The clay sculpture of the Yang family originated in the 12th year of Daoguang (1832) of Qing Dynasty. The founder learned from many teachers and learned from various folk arts, integrating clay sculpture, painting, wood carving, chapter carving, paper cutting and ironing, The basic artistic style of Yang's clay sculpture has been initially formed.

The production process of Yang's family clay sculpture is more complex, including more than 20 processes, such as ingredients, mud making, statue making and color application, during which various methods, such as round carving, relief carving and openwork carving, are used. The finished products are exquisite, bright in color and exaggerated in shape, becoming the primary representative of folk art in Longde. The clay sculptures of Yang's family are rich in contents, and are good at expressing religious ideals and feelings of life through artistic idols. They have high folklore and historical and cultural research value.

With the development of society, Yang family clay sculpture began to decline. Restricted by financial resources, material resources and human resources, this excellent folk art, which records the regional history and customs of Ningxia, can not be effectively protected and inherited, and is facing the danger of extinction.
