Huining paper-cut is mainly distributed in towns and villages of Huining County, Gansu Province, among which gangouyi township is the most outstanding.

Huining paper-cut has a long history. It was fully mature in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. It was widely used in the local civil society. It is the most traditional and popular art style for local people to beautify their homes and decorate festivals. The common themes include flowers and plants, birds and animals, folk customs, festive implication, opera characters, folklore and daily life, etc. the forms of expression are mainly window flowers, lantern flowers and Kang flowers. The overall symmetry and cross symmetry of the paper-cut pattern are the main picture structure. The shape is free, straightforward and unrestrained, full of strong local flavor and unique and novel decorative interest.
