Introduction to paper cutting (Fengning Manchu paper cutting)
Applicant: Fengning Manchu Autonomous County, Hebei Province
Fengning Manchu Autonomous County of Hebei Province is located in the northern part of the Great Wall. The folk spread of Fengning Manchu paper-cut began in the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty, and formed a new style with regional characteristics and national characteristics in the Qianlong period. It is mainly engraved in the sun, supplemented by Yin, with long hair and fine cutting. At the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China, the Manchu paper-cut in Fengning entered its heyday. After 1949, it had further development in form and content, which was closer to the reality of production and life. After 1960, the artistic creation of paper cutting fell into a low ebb. In 1982, the folk paper-cut team of Fengning was re established, and its works caused extensive influence at home and abroad with various exhibitions and overseas performances. In 1993, Fengning was named "the hometown of Chinese folk paper cutting art" by the Ministry of culture.
Fengning Manchu paper-cut can be divided into auspicious paper-cut, flower, bird, fish and insect paper-cut, landscape paper-cut, character, basin, basket, dish, bottle, melon, animal, flower paper-cut and so on. From the form of expression, it includes monochrome paper-cut (red, white, black, etc.), dyeing paper-cut, coloring paper-cut, multi-color combination paper-cut and other varieties. According to the specific use, it can be divided into window flowers, hanging tags for worshiping ancestors (hanging tags), sweeping heaven in cloudy days, festival paper-cut, fireworks (wedding festive paper-cut, funeral plain paper-cut, etc.), ceiling flowers for daily interior decoration, fengdouhua, Kangwei paper-cut, etc. Among the numerous folk paper-cut in China, Fengning Manchu paper-cut occupies a place with its unique artistic charm.
At present, most of the traditional paper-cut skills of the Manchu people in Fengning are kept in the hands of the old people over 70 years old, facing the risk of being lost, which is in urgent need of rescue and protection.
