Introduction to Xihe Dagu

Xihe Dagu has other names such as dagushu, xihetiao, meihuadiao, xianzigu and Hejian Dagu. It originated from wooden Dagu and xianzishu, and mainly spread in Hebei and its surrounding areas. During the reign of Emperor Qianlong in Qing Dynasty, Liu Chuanjing, Zhao Chuanbi and Wang Lu in Baoding created the performance of board drum and string book. It spread to Ma Sanfeng, an artist of wooden drum, and gradually formed Xihe drum. Zhu Hualin, the first disciple of Ma Sanfeng, created the art of Zhu school and made an important contribution to the development of Xihe drum.

Xihe drum performance by a person from the hit copperplate and Book drum rap, and a special person to play three string accompaniment. Its singing is simple and vigorous, its style is like speaking and singing, and its charm is unique. There are long, medium and short books in traditional bibliography. There are more than 150 long and medium-sized works with known names. There are more than 370 sections of book caps and short paragraphs. Most of the contents are historical war stories and popular folk romance. The plot is tortuous and the language is vivid. It is an excellent folk art widely spread in the north.

Xihe Dagu has been popular among the masses since its birth. There have been famous artists such as Ma Ruihe, Zhu Hualin (Zhu Daguan), Mao Ben (Wang Zhenyuan), Wang Zaitang (twinkling of an eye), Zhang shuanglai and classic books such as Xiangma Zhuan and hujiajiang, which have high historical and cultural value. At present, there is an unprecedented crisis in the inheritance and development of Xihe Dagu.
