Guizhou opera, also known as "Wenqin" and "Guizhou Tanci", is a new type of local opera developed on the basis of Guizhou quyi Yangqin. It was officially named "Guizhou opera" in February 1960. During the reign of Kangxi in Qing Dynasty, Yangqin began to spread in Guizhou, which has a history of nearly 300 years.

The singing music of qianju opera belongs to banqiang style, with basic tunes such as "qingban", "Erban", "yangdiao", "kuchen", "Erliu" and "Erhuang". In addition to Yangqin, there are also wengqin, Yueqin, xiaojinghu, erhu, pipa, Sanxian, Xiao, flute, etc. The lyrics of Guizhou opera are mainly composed of rhymes, which follow the sentence pattern of "three three four" or "two two three" in speaking and singing literature. The language is simple and the singing is tactful, which is deeply loved by Guizhou people.

There are more than 400 traditional operas in Guizhou opera, which are mainly adapted from classical novels and operas. Moving kiln, Pearl Tower, three difficult bridegroom and other representative works are among them. Over the years, Guizhou opera has created and transplanted a large number of plays. Among them, "qinniangmei", adapted from Dong opera, has been shot as a stage art film. The Yi historical story drama "Madame Shexiang" has been performed in Beijing for the 30th anniversary of the founding of the people's Republic of China. It has won the first prize for performance and the first prize for creation awarded by the Ministry of culture. In the aspects of musical singing, musical instrument equipment, performance program, stage art, etc., Guizhou opera has also been innovated and further developed.
