Pingju is one of the most influential local operas in China. Heilongjiang Province is a fertile land for the development of Pingju. Since the birth of Pingju, many famous Pingju artists have performed in Heilongjiang Province in the course of one hundred years of historical development. After liberation, many famous Pingju artists have emerged in Heilongjiang Province, such as Liu Xiaolou, Xi Cailing, Wu Sufang, Bi Yanyan and so on.

It is a tradition of Pingju to be good at expressing real life. As early as the 1920s, Cheng Zhaocai, the founder of Pingju opera, based on the local current news, created and performed "Yang Sanjie complains", "black cat complains", "shoot Luo long", "shoot Luo Hu", "an chonggen stabs ITO Bowen" and so on. In 1928, Li Jinshun, a famous Pingju Opera master, created and performed the fashion play "patriotic Jiao", which basically established the specialty of modern drama. After 1949, Pingju performed a large number of modern dramas, such as Liu Qiaoer, little son-in-law, Xiao erhei's marriage, Liu Jiemei, seizing the seal, Xiangyang shop, etc., which showed the life of different historical periods of socialist construction from different aspects and eulogized the new people and new things of socialism. Heilongjiang Pingju academy is an important professional performance group and inheritance base of Pingju.
