Introduction to Dapingdiao
Applicant: Mudan District, Heze City
The original name of Dapingdiao is "pingdiao", also known as "dayoubang" and "dabangxi". Now it is commonly known as "Dapingdiao", which has a history of more than 500 years and covers the marginal urban and rural areas of Hebei, Shandong, Jiangsu, Henan and Anhui provinces. Since the Ming and Qing Dynasties, there have been 19 well-known troupes. For hundreds of years, many well-known artists have sprung up in this type of opera, which enjoys a high reputation among the masses. Since modern times, Dapingdiao has gradually formed three branches: Donglu pingdiao, Xilu pingdiao and Hedong pingdiao. The popular Dapingdiao in Dongming and Heze of Shandong province belongs to Hedong pingdiao.
The singing music of Dapingdiao belongs to banqiang style, which is rich in banqiang and Qupai. The singing is lively and easy, high pitched and unrestrained, vigorous and exciting, yet graceful, harmonious and beautiful. The performance program of Da Ping Diao is various, exaggeration is true, bold is more perfect, rough is more detailed, rigid is more flexible, and the personality is very distinct. In the performance practice, the artists of Dapingdiao once absorbed folk martial arts routines and performed on the stage with real swords and guns, which is unique.
Dapingdiao plays are mostly adapted from such classical novels as the chronicles of the Eastern Zhou Dynasty, the romance of the Three Kingdoms, the case of Baogong, and Yang Jiajiang. Some of them are also based on folklore and historical stories. After the founding of the people's Republic of China, a number of modern dramas were created, which received good repercussions.
