Jiangnan street is located in the southeast of Quanzhou City, about 4km away from the residence of the district government. It is bounded by Fuxia highway in the East and faces Chidian town of Jinjiang City, adjacent to zimaoshan farm of Jinjiang City in the south, Fengzhou town of Nan'an City in the West and Fuqiao street in the North.
The jurisdiction is located in the South Bank of the lower reaches of Jinjiang River, so it is called Jiangnan. Jiangnan street now has 7187 households with a total population of 56638 (2010), Han nationality, with Minnan dialect. The government is located at 432 Xingxian road.
The area is located in the alluvial plain on the South Bank of the lower reaches of Jinjiang River, with fertile land. The south channel of Shanmei irrigation area runs through the whole area, with good water conservancy conditions, developed agriculture and main rice production.

Historical evolution
In Song Dynasty, it belonged to changtaili and xingxianli in Jinjiang township of Jinjiang county. In yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties, it belonged to 33 and 34 capitals. During the period of the Republic of China, it belonged to Xinxiang town and Siwei township of Jinjiang county. In 1950, it belonged to the fourth and fifth districts of Jinjiang county. In 1951, the county and city were divided into Nantai District of Quanzhou City. In 1906, it became Zhujiang township. In 1958, Jinjiang county was demolished, and some townships of Nan'an County merged with Zhujiang township to form Jiangnan people's commune under the jurisdiction of Quanzhou City. It was changed to Jiangnan Township in 1984.
