hydrology
The main rivers in the area are Jishui River, Liuchong River and guichong River belonging to Jishui river system, and Zengwen River and youzikeng River belonging to Zengwen river system.
Jishuixi is a large river in the northern part of Tainan City. Its source is located at lengziding at the junction of Zhongpu Township and Dapu Township in Jiayi county. It flows through Baihe District of Tainan City, converges with Liuchong stream at qingyeqiao, and becomes the boundary river between the northwest of the district and Baihe District, houbi district and Xinying district. It flows to the west end of the district and joins guichong stream before leaving the district. Finally, it was injected into the Taiwan Strait in Beimen district.
Guichong stream, also known as shibazhong stream, is a major tributary of Jishui stream. In this region, the drainage area includes most of the eastern mountainous area, the central hilly area and the southern half of the western plain. Its total area accounts for about 70% of the total area of the region, which can be regarded as the most important river in the region. The upper reaches of the stream is beiliao stream, which originates from the mountainous area on the east side of yuandunzi Lake in Baihe district. After flowing southwest into the area and passing through the hilly area, it becomes the boundary river between the area and Liuying District, and finally flows into the main stream of Jishui stream on the west side of dingwo. Its main tributaries are qiapo stream and Luliao stream.
Liuchongxi is another major tributary of jishuixi, and it is also an important river in the northwest of this area. The stream originates from DARONGSHAN at the junction of Baihe district and Dapu Township, Jiayi County, and flows to wutongqi in Baihe District, becoming the boundary river with the district. Then it flows to qingyeqiao and flows into the main stream of jishuixi.
Zeng Wenxi is a large river crossing Jiayi county and Tainan City. The middle reaches of the river flow through the southeast boundary of the area. The catchment area in the area is not large and is located in mountainous areas. For this area, its importance is far less than that of the above rivers.

history
According to the records of the Dutch East India Company, Dongshan District was originally the hometown of Dorko of Pingpu and Anya ethnic groups. In 1636, the doroho society surrendered and accepted Dutch rule. At that time, the population was only about 200.
During the Ming and Zheng dynasties (1661-1683), in order to solve the problem of military supplies, the policy of "integrating soldiers into agriculture" was adopted and many military villages were established. After Zheng's surrender to the Qing Dynasty in the Ming Dynasty, the former soldiers were forced to move back to the middle land. However, with the increase of the number of people crossing Taiwan, they gradually developed into Han settlements. According to the literature, in the 33rd year of Kangxi (1694), there were "duoluozhuang" mainly composed of Han people in the activity scope of duoluozhuang society; in the 54th to 56th year of Kangxi (1715-1717), there were also some Han villages, such as longchuanwo village, wuzaitou village, Xiucai village, and duoluozhuang village was also divided into old and new ones; in the early years of tongzhi (1862-1864), there were many Han villages It has developed into DORO Dong Shangbao and DORO Dong Xiabao, with 57 villages under its jurisdiction. Most of them are located in today's Dongshan District, except a few in today's Baihe district.
Later, douluopeng street was renamed fanshe street. During the reign of Emperor Guangxu, about 60% of the area in the southeast of the region was subordinate to dongdingbao, including xiananshizhuang, qizitouzhuang, qiandapu Zhuang and niuwuqi Zhuang; about 20% of the area in the middle and west of the region was subordinate to dongxiabao, including erchongxizhuang, fanziling Zhuang and Dake Zhuang; about 20% of the area in the northwest was subordinate to Xibao, including fanshe street and Xu Xiucai There are three kinds of villages in the world, namely, village, Jibei village, Tianwei village and dingwo village.
Although the traditional system of administrative division of Zhuangli street was still changed frequently in the early days. In 1920, the local government of Taiwan reformed its system, abolishing Baoli and Jiezhuang and establishing Jiezhuang and Xiaozi instead. Fanshe village was set up here, which belongs to Xinying County of Tainan Prefecture. It has jurisdiction over all the Dongding fort of Dora, as well as the above-mentioned Street houses of Dora dongxiabao and Dora Xibao, while the old street houses are renamed Dazi.
At the beginning of the Second World War, fanshe township was established. Later, because the local people thought that the name of fanshe township was vulgar, and it was easy to be misunderstood as the fanshe of Gaoshan Nationality. They planned to take the mountain to the east of the township and changed it to Dongshan Township. On December 25, 2010, after the merger of Tainan County and city, it was renamed Dongshan District.

Religion and folk custom
Located in the north of the center of Dongshan settlement, bixuan temple was established in 1844 to welcome Guanyin Bodhisattva from Biyun Temple of Baihe volcano. Every year on December 23 of the lunar calendar, the believers send the Buddha (Guanyin Bodhisattva) back to the "ancestral home" of Biyun temple. At midnight on the 10th of the first lunar month after the Chinese new year, a grand ceremony will be held to welcome the Buddha down the mountain. Then the believers will walk down the mountain to Zhongzhou via liuchongxi, shimiaozi, taizikeng, shanziding, erythrinazaki and zhuweizi, and then return to Dongshan via baishuixi. They will enter the temple in the evening. This is the famous "Dongshan greeting Buddha" activity.
Fuyou palace, commonly known as "Xiangong Temple", is located at the foot of Gutou mountain in nanshili. It was set up in 1946. Its main temple is Lu Dongbin, Fuyou emperor. The new palace of the palace adopts the northern style temple structure. The crossbeam abandons the traditional stone carving, wood carving or color painting, and adopts magnetic painting and ceramic decoration instead. The left and right outer walls are large-scale wood carvings, which are quite characteristic. There are 12 sceneries nearby, including shibufo, Shibao wind tunnel, Longtou cave, Baihou cave, Shibao baguatu, quxifeng cave, Shibao Jinyin, ten gates to the road
