It is connected with Yuli County in the East, Puhui farm and Puhui Township in the south, Awati Township in the West and North, 17.5km away from Korla municipal government, with a total area of 348.38km2.

In the 36th year of the Republic of China (1947), halayugong township was under the jurisdiction of the first township of Korla County; in 1984, along with Korla County, it was merged into Korla City, and the commune was changed to township in the same year.
