Baotan Township, Luocheng Mulao Autonomous County, Guangxi was established in October 1984. It is a new township set up by the original Huangjin township of the county. Baotan township is located in the south foot of Jiuwan mountain and the northwest of the county. The township government is located in Baotan street, 61 kilometers away from the county, with a total area of 185.09 square kilometers and 840 hectares of cultivated land, including 112 hectares of dry land.
Baotan Township governs 1 community, 7 villager committees, 126 natural villages and 136 villager groups. There are 7 ethnic groups, including Zhuang, Han, Mulao, Yao, Miao, Dong and Maonan. There are 19173 people in 4762 households, of which the Zhuang population is 13886, accounting for 72.4%. Zhuang language is the main language. Folk customs such as festivals and folk songs are strongly expressed in Zhuang style. The township is a 90000 mountain area, with mountains like forests, towering into the clouds. There are 24 high fronts more than 1000 meters above sea level, which is known as "killing Monopterus albus by the sun in the daytime and making cotton rolls at night".

Because of its rich resources, it is called "baibaotan", which is the origin of Baotan.
economic development
In 2003, the township's financial revenue was 2.1673 million yuan, and the per capita net income of farmers was 1 068 yuan. The village was connected with radio and television, telephone and traffic, and the village was basically connected with electricity. The thatched houses have been eliminated and the living environment has been greatly improved. The overall planning for the construction of market towns has been completed and has begun to take shape. Qiaoshan to Baotan and Baotan to Sibao highways have been reconstructed, and the traffic conditions have been greatly improved. The construction of Baotan hydropower station is under intense construction; the development of mineral resources is on the right track; the protection, development and utilization of forestry are carried out in an orderly manner, and the pillar industries of electricity, mining and forestry are gradually forming.

In recent years, the township's health and education undertakings have developed rapidly. There is a central health center, a branch hospital, and medical cooperation rooms in seven villages. There are 1 Central Primary School, 7 village primary schools, 10 teaching sites and 1973 pupils in the township. There is one junior high school at the township level and one junior high school attached to the primary school, with a total of 730 students.
