It is adjacent to duting Township in the East, changgu town in the south, Beiluo town in the west, hailishui Township in the northwest and beidiantou Township in the north. The maximum distance from east to west is 6.5 km, and the maximum distance from north to south is 5.2 km, with a total area of 17.8 square kilometers. In late 2018, the total registered residence of South Dian tou township was 24364.

In 1953, nandiantou township was built. In 1961, nandiantou commune was established. In 1984, it was changed to nandiantou township. As of June 2020, nandiantou township has jurisdiction over 8 administrative villages, and the Township People's government is located in nandiantou village. Nandiantou township is the planting site of Chinese jujube, a national geographical indication product of China.
