Meikou Township, belonging to Taining County, Sanming City, Fujian Province, is located in the central and southern part of Taining County. It is a key township for resettlement in the reservoir area of Chi Tan reservoir, with a total area of 179 square kilometers and a cultivated area of 538.07 hectares. In 2018, there were 6487 permanent residents in Meikou township. By 2019, Meikou township has jurisdiction over 9 administrative villages.

In 2018, the GDP of Meikou township is 265 million yuan, including 99.8 million yuan of agricultural output value and 165 million yuan of industrial output value; the total financial revenue is 6.3718 million yuan, including 3.974 million yuan of general budget revenue; and the per capita net income of farmers is 10346 yuan.

On June 29, 2020, Meikou township was selected into the list of "provincial rural governance demonstration towns".

Historical evolution

In 1958, Redtory commune was established.

In 1959, it was renamed Meikou commune.

Meikou township has 12228.94 hectares of mountain forest and 538.07 hectares of cultivated land, including 515 hectares of paddy field and 36 square kilometers of water area. It is an ecological forest area township with "eight mountains, one half of water and half of farmland". The forest coverage rate is 75%. Among them, the designated scenic area has 56000 mu of conservation forest, 78000 mu of ecological public welfare forest and 100000 mu of other forest land, with a total timber volume of 410000 cubic meters 1.5 million bamboos.

Taining World Geopark, Fujian

Taining World Geopark in Fujian Province is composed of great Chibi, Shuiji waterfall, Ganlu temple, Maoer Mountain, sanjianfeng, lovers rock, Shiliping lake and other scenic spots, with a total area of 492.5 square kilometers, of which Danxia landform covers an area of 252.7 square kilometers. It is composed of Shiwang, dajinhu, baxianya, jinnaoshan four parks and Taining ancient city tourist area. The park is a comprehensive Geopark with typical Danxia landform of youth as the main body, volcanic rock, granite, tectonic landform and other geological relics.
