Wanning Wanning, a county-level city in Hainan Province, is located in the southeast of Hainan Island, adjacent to Nanhai in the East, Qiongzhong County in the west, Lingshui County in the South and Qionghai City in the north. Hainan Ring Expressway and Hainan Island railway pass through Wanning, with three railway stations including Wanning station. Historical evolution
The discovery of the Baigou Neolithic site in Wanning, and the discovery of many stone axes and stones in Wenchangyuan village in Jiuzhou, indicate that in the Neolithic age, there were human beings living and working in Wanning.
In the sixth year of Yuanding in the Han Dynasty (110 BC), Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty ordered Fu Bo's general Lu bode and General Yang Pu of louchuan to lead the troops to pacify the South Vietnam rebellion, and then set up zhuya county and daner county to administer Hainan Island. Wanning is under the jurisdiction of zhuya county.
In the Tang Dynasty, Wan'an county was set up from ancient Pingchang County in 631, which was subordinate to Qiongzhou; in 639, Wan'an county was changed to Liya Prefecture; in 661, Wan'an county was changed to Wan'an Prefecture, which led to Wan'an, Lingshui, Fuyun and boliao counties, and its governance was set up in Jiuzhou village of Damao town; in 721, Wan'an Prefecture was moved to Lingshui County; and tianbaoyuan county was established In 742, Wan'an Prefecture was changed to wan'quan County, belonging to Lingnan Road, and the county was also renamed wan'quan; in 785, the first year of Zhenyuan, the rule of Wan'an county was moved back to wan'quan County, and at the same time, it was renamed Wan'an County, and the county was also renamed Wan'an.
During the period of Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms (907-960), Wan'an Prefecture belonged to the Southern Han Dynasty and was renamed Wan'an Prefecture. It abandoned Fuyun and boliao, and only led Wan'an and Lingshui counties.
In the Song Dynasty, Wan'an Prefecture began to return to the Song Dynasty in the fourth year of Kaibao (1023); in the seventh year of Xining (1076), Wan'an Prefecture was changed into Wan'an army, which was subordinate to Qiong and led Wan'an county and Lingshui, which was changed into town at that time; in the Daguan (1107-1110), Wan'an army moved to the rear; in the sixth year of Shaoxing (1136), Wan'an army was abolished and set up in Wanning County, which was subordinate to Qiong by military envoy Ren Zhixian; in the thirteenth year of Shaoxing (119) In 1993, Wan'an army was restored, and Wan'an and Lingshui counties were led.
In the Yuan Dynasty, in November of the first year of Xiangxing (1278), the yuan general aliya led troops across Hainan, and all the counties and states in Hainan were reduced to yuan. In the 28th year of the Yuan Dynasty (1291), the pacification division of Qiongzhou road army was changed to the civil pacification division of Qiongzhou road army, and Wan'an army was still under the Song Dynasty system.
In the first year of Hongwu (1368), Liao Chengzhong and Zhu Liangzu drafted Hainan to Ke Wan'an, and Wan'an began to belong to the Ming Dynasty; in the third year of Hongwu (1370), Qiongzhou was promoted to Guangdong, and Wan'an army was changed to Wanzhou, which belonged to Qiongzhou Prefecture and still led Wanning and Lingshui counties; in the fifth year of Zhengtong (1440), province and county were prefectures, and Wanzhou only led Lingshui County.
In the Qing Dynasty, in the spring of the fourth year of Shunzhi (1647), the soldiers of the Qing Dynasty took Guangdong, and all the counties such as Zhao, Gao and Lei came down. In April of summer, Qiongzhou came down. On the 13th of the same year, Wanzhou people shaved their hair and returned to their hometown. In the ninth year of Shunzhi (1652), Fujian bandit Zhang Shijun led more than 300 pirates into Wanzhou to defeat the Ming soldiers and occupy the city. In August, the soldiers of the Qing Dynasty crossed the sea to restore Qiongzhou city. General Ma Zhenglong led his officers and soldiers to set up a garrison in Wanzhou Garrison, local return to Qing jurisdiction.
In January of the first year of the Republic of China (1912), the Republic of China was established, but fan YUNTI of QiongYa road refused to transfer power to Zhao Shihuai appointed by the Guangdong military government. In mid February of the same year, Wang xuqi, the first governor of Wanzhou appointed by the Guangdong military government, took office. In 1914, it was changed to Wanning county. It is under the jurisdiction of Guangdong Province. On October 10, 1941, the Anti Japanese democratic united government of Lewan county was established. On July 1, 1947, the CPC Lewan County Committee and the democratic government of Lewan county were abolished, and the CPC Wanning County Committee and the democratic government of Wanning county were established at the same time.
On July 12, 1949, according to the first decree of QiongYa provisional people's government, Wanning County democratic government was renamed "Wanning County People's government".
In January 1950, Geng Ruo Tianshi, the KMT who had retreated from the mainland and came to Hainan, entered Wanning and occupied the campus of Wanning middle school as a military camp. On April 27 of the same year, KMT troops boarded warships from Wuchang port and Xintan seashore and fled to Taiwan. That afternoon, Wanning County was liberated. On April 28 of the same year, Wanning county Party committee and County People's government moved from Beida township to Wancheng.
On December 8, 1958, Qiongdong County, Lehui county and Wanning County merged to form Qionghai county.
In 1987, all districts of the county were changed into townships (towns), and villagers' committees were changed into administrative districts.
In April 1988, Hainan Island was established as a province, and Wanning was under the jurisdiction of Hainan Province.
On August 5, 1996, the State Council approved Wanning to set up a city instead of a county.

In the Ming Dynasty, Wanzhou had 14 maps and 20 cities.
In Qing Dynasty, there were 34 capitals, 2 cities and 17 towns. From the end of Qing Dynasty to the beginning of the Republic of China, there were districts, townships (LI), Bao and Jia below the county level, which carried out the functions of management, education, maintenance and health.
In 1928, the county was divided into four districts and 46 townships. In 1929, it was divided into seven districts and 57 townships. In 1945, Wanning County National Government set up four districts and nine townships. The first district governs Ningyi and Ninger townships; the second district governs ningsan and ningsi townships; the third district governs Ningwu and ningliu townships; and the Fourth District governs Ningqi, Ningba and Ningjiu townships.
In April 1950, Wanning county was liberated, and the people's Government of the county immediately took over the administration of the districts and townships. At that time, the administrative system of District, township (town), Bao and Jia was still in use.

In 1957, five districts were abolished and 191 small townships were merged into 15 large townships. In 1958, the people's commune system was established and the "unity of government and society" was implemented. Wanning, Dongfeng and Dongxing people's communes were established in the county. In December 1958, Qiongdong County, Lehui county and Wanning county were merged into Qionghai county. In November 1959, Qionghai county was divided into Qionghai county and Wanning county.
Before 1959, some villages in Dongao, Niulou, Liji and Nanjiao were under the jurisdiction of Lingshui County. Some villages in Beida and Sangengluo are under the jurisdiction of Baoting and Qiongzhong counties. From 1959 to 1961, these villages were under the jurisdiction of Wanning County, and the establishment of communes gradually increased. Hele commune was divided into Hong Kong North commune and hou'an commune; Peking University commune was divided into sangenluo commune; Chang'an commune was divided into Niulou commune; Dongao commune was divided into Longbao commune (merged in 1962). During the cultural revolution, the Wanning County Revolutionary Committee was established in 1968, and the communes (towns) and brigades (neighborhood committees) also established revolutionary committees. In 1969, some state farms were merged with nearby people's communes. Sangengluo, Nanqiao, Niulou and Beida communes were merged into Xinzhong, Nanlin, Donghe and Dongxing state farms respectively.
