The origin of the name
There have always been two versions of the origin of "Huanggu"
1. Huanggu District is named after Huanggu tomb, which is the tomb of Prince Jianyi. Prince Jianyi is the eighth son of shuerhaqi, Prince Zhuang, the younger brother of Nurhachi. Because Prince Jian's real name is fingu, his tomb is also called fingu tomb. After a long time, it was misinterpreted as Huanggu tomb.
2. The name of Huanggu District comes from Nuerhachi's Gan daughter (also known as Gan Mei), who was buried in Shouquan area, so it is called Huanggu tomb. When the Beijing Fengshui railway was built in 1911, the original Huanggu tomb was renamed huanggutun. In 1938, the puppet City Office named huanggutun station as Huanggu District.
During the Qing Dynasty, Huanggu area was a farmland with several villages and dozens of farmers.
In 1907, huanggutun railway station was set up on the Beijing Fengshui railway. Since then, industry, commerce and transportation industries have sprung up in this area. The number of residents has been increasing and towns have gradually formed.
In 1913, there were 9 villages under the jurisdiction of the Ninth District of Shenyang County, including Xinshi village, baohebao village, dongshahezi village, beipai village, Xin'an village, huanggutun village, tawan village, Yuhuayuan village and beishahezi village, and 10 villages under the jurisdiction of the seventh district.
In 1929, it was under the jurisdiction of the Sixth District of Shenyang City, including Shuncheng Street, Engineering Department Street, Xinglong Street, huanggutun front street, huanggutun middle street and huanggutun back street (now Yaming and Kejian).
In 1931, after the September 18th Incident, it was under the jurisdiction of the Ninth District of Shenyang County, Fengtian province. There were eight main villages, including huanggutun, tawan, beipai, Xinshi village, beishahezi, dongshahezi, Xin'an village and baohepu. There were nine main villages in the seventh district, Santaizi.
At the end of 1937, Huanggu District was under the jurisdiction of Fengtian city.
In January 1938, Huanggu District, including Huanggu and Beiling, was established.
On September 1, 1947, Shenyang was divided into 24 districts instead of 17 districts. The west of Huanggu District was divided into tawan district.
On November 20, 1948, after the liberation of Shenyang, Shenyang special municipal government ordered that Huanggu District, Beiling district and tawan district should be merged into Huanggu District, and Huanggu District government should be established. At the same time, Beiling district should be set up in Huanggu District.
In June 1949, the people's Government of Huanggu District was established.
In May 1955, it was renamed Huanggu District People's Committee.
At the beginning of the "Cultural Revolution" in 1966, Huanggu District was renamed Hongwei District.
On June 24, 1968, Shenyang Revolutionary Committee decided to restore the name of Huanggu District.
In July 1968, the people's Committee of Huanggu District was changed into the Revolutionary Committee of Huanggu District.
In September 1980, it was renamed Huanggu District People's government.
In December 2019, Shenyang Civil Affairs Bureau issued the notice on adjusting the administrative divisions of some streets in Heping District and other 10 areas, canceling Liaohe Street and tawan street in Huanggu District, and adjusting the number of streets under the jurisdiction of Huanggu District from 12 to 10.
As of December 2019, Huanggu District has 10 streets: sitaizi street, Santaizi street, Huanghe street, Huashan street, Minglian street, Xinle street, shelita street, Beita street, Lingdong street and Yalujiang street.
Huanggu District is located in the northwest of Shenyang City, adjacent to Shenhe District in the East, Hong District in the west, Shenbei New District in the north and Heping District in the south. The longest part is about 8.25 km from east to west, and the widest part is about 8.8 km from north to south, with a total area of 66 square kilometers.
The terrain of Huanggu District is high in the north and low in the south, with little fluctuation. The lowest elevation is 39 meters, and the highest elevation is 45 meters. The north is a low hilly area extending from Tianzhu Mountain, and the south is the channel of guhun river. The geology is the fourth generation of impact plain. The surface is generally covered with 0.1-1.5 meters of topsoil. The lower part of the topsoil is sandy soil layer, clay layer or mixed clay layer.
In Huanggu District, there is an artificially excavated Xinkai River between guhun river course and hilly area, running through the whole area from east to west, with a flow length of about 8 km.
Huanggu District is a temperate continental climate in the north temperate zone, which is affected by the monsoon. It has more wind and sand, and the annual average temperature is 7.8 ℃. The annual average maximum temperature is 13.7 ℃, the extreme maximum temperature is 38.3 ℃, the annual average minimum temperature is - 26 ℃, and the extreme minimum temperature is - 30.6 ℃. In spring, it warms quickly, has sufficient sunshine radiation, more southwest wind, more evaporation, and less rain. Summer is hot and rainy, the air is humid and rainy. Autumn is short-term, from warm to cool, the sky is high, cloud is light, cool and pleasant, before and after frost, the temperature drops suddenly.
Huanggu District is rich in coal, iron, oil, natural gas and other natural resources.
As of 2014, Huanggu District had a total population of 940000. There are 31 ethnic groups including Han, Hui, Manchu, Mongolian, Korean and Xibo.

Huanggu District expects that by the end of 2019, the general public budget revenue will reach 4.08 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 2%; the tax revenue will reach 3.35 billion yuan, and the ratio of tax to non tax will be 82:18.
