Taishan, a county-level city under the administration of Jiangmen City, Guangdong Province, is located in the southwest of the Pearl River Delta, with a total land area of 3286.3 square kilometers. It has jurisdiction over 16 towns and 1 Street (in 2019), with a permanent resident population of 953900.
In November 2018, Taishan City was identified as the first batch of innovative counties (cities) by the Ministry of science and technology. In September 2019, Taishan City was selected as one of the first batch of national global tourism demonstration areas.
In 2019, Taishan's GDP will reach 45.22 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 5%; the general public budget revenue will reach 3.17 billion yuan, an increase of 8.2%; the industrial added value will reach 14.98 billion yuan, an increase of 5.7%; the investment in fixed assets will reach 30.77 billion yuan, an increase of 12.6%; and the total retail sales of social consumer goods will reach 27.9 billion yuan, an increase of 9.3%. The proportion of three industrial structure is 22.46:38.46:39.08.
Taishan is known as "the first hometown of overseas Chinese in China" and "two Taishan mountains at home and abroad". There are more than 1.6 million Taishan people living abroad and more than 90 countries and regions such as Hong Kong and Macao. Taishan has a large number of talented people, including Lei Jieqiong, former vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, Chen Yixi, founder of China's first private railway, Wu Bingzhi, the 26th governor of Canada, and Locke, the first Chinese Governor and ambassador to China in American history. Taishan is a famous "hometown of Volleyball", "hometown of Guangdong music", "hometown of Chinese folk art" and "hometown of floating color art". It is also a national civilized city and a national forest city. Haikou Port of Duanfen town in Taishan is known as "the first port for Guangfu people to go to sea".
Historical evolution
During the spring and Autumn period and the Warring States period, the present Taishan area belongs to Ouyue area.
After the unification of the six states, Qin conquered Ouyue and set up Nanhai County, in which Taishan is now located.
At the end of Qin Dynasty, Zhao Tuo occupied the south of the five ridges. After returning to the Han Dynasty, he became the king of Southern Yue. The scope of its rule includes the present Taishan area.
In the Eastern Han Dynasty, it belonged to Sihui County of Nanhai county.
Wu Taiping period of the Three Kingdoms belongs to Nanhai County of Guangzhou.
In the second year of emperor Gong of Jin Dynasty (419), Xinhui County of Guangzhou was established in the South Sea, and penyun County, a subsidiary of Xinhui County in the present Taishan area.
In the Southern Dynasties, the territory of Taishan remained unchanged.
In the Sui Dynasty, Xinhui county and Pingchen county were abolished and merged into Nanhai county.
In 621, Gangzhou was established in Xinhui and Yining counties, and is now attached to Taishan. In 640, Gangzhou was abandoned and returned to Xinhui County, Guangzhou.
Song Dynasty belongs to Guangnan East Road, Xinhui County, Guangzhou.
The Yuan Dynasty was subordinate to Xinhui County, Guangzhou road, xingzhongshu Province, Jiangxi Province.
In the 12th year of Hongzhi (1499) of the Ming Dynasty, the county was established under the jurisdiction of Guangzhou government, the Chief Secretary of Guangdong Province.
In the Qing Dynasty, the membership remained unchanged. In April 1867, Tuke was divided and Chixi hall was established, which was directly under the Guangdong chief secretary.
In the first year of the Republic of China (1912), Chixi hall was changed to Chixi County, under the jurisdiction of yuehaidao.
In 1920, Taishan county and Chixi county were under the jurisdiction of Guangdong provincial government. In June of 1932, Taishan county was under the supervision system of county government. Taishan County successively belonged to the first district and the Tenth District (the office of the Commissioner of administrative supervision was stationed in Guangzhou).
From the founding of the people's Republic of China to may 1952, Taishan and Chixi counties were subordinate to the central Guangdong special region of the Communist Party of China.
From May 1952 to February 1956, it was subordinate to the Communist Party of China's special district of western Guangdong (in 1953, Chixi county was removed as a district and merged into Taishan county).
From March 1956 to January 1959, it was subordinate to Foshan district.
From February 1959 to April 1961, it was subordinate to Jiangmen district.
From April 1961 to June 1963, it was subordinate to Zhaoqing district.
From June 15, 1963 to May 4, 1983, it was assigned to Foshan special area.
On May 5, 1983, it was restructured into a county under the jurisdiction of Jiangmen City.

In 1996, Taishan City covered an area of 3213.2 square kilometers. With a population of 1.01 million, there are nearly 1.1 million overseas Chinese and compatriots from Hong Kong and Macao. In May 2006, Taishan City abolished Nafu town and merged its administrative region into Shenjing town; abolished Sanba town and merged its administrative region into Baisha Town, Taicheng town and Shuibu town respectively. The city is adjacent to the South China Sea in the south, with a coastline of 649.2 kilometers. There are 265 large and small islands in the city. Shangchuan island and Xiachuan island are among the Chuanshan islands, but Shangchuan island has the largest area. Shangchuan and Xiachuan are known as the "Oriental Hawaii". Shangchuan island is 157 square kilometers, which is the largest island in Guangdong. Xiachuan island is 98 square kilometers. There are basins, plains, hills, mountains and beaches in the whole city, with fertile land and abundant products. Taishan has a subtropical marine monsoon climate, with an average annual temperature of 21.8 ℃, an average annual sunshine of 2006 hours and an average annual rainfall of 1936 mm.
Taishan is mountainous. There is Beifeng mountain in the northeast. Shizitou, the first peak in Taishan City, is 982 meters above sea level. In the southeast of Duhu Town, there are Nanfeng mountain, Taishan Mountain and xinhuijie mountain. Among them, the peaks are filled with clouds, and the cliffs are empty. After two or three thousand meters, another peak rises. The top of the peak is like a auspicious beast. Xiaoshou roars against the wind, so it is called "wangfengshuo" (831 meters).
