Gaoyou martyrs cemetery

Gaoyou martyrs cemetery management office was founded in 1887, formerly known as "Zhongyuan Park". It was renamed Zhongshan Park in 1933, Martyrs Park in February 1949, Martyrs Park Management Office of Gaoyou County in April 1978 and martyrs cemetery management office of Gaoyou County in May 1981. In April 1991, the county was removed and the city was established, and now the Gaoyou martyrs cemetery management office was established. Gaoyou martyrs cemetery is located in the center of Gaoyou City, adjacent to Tonghu road in the north and Xianfu street in the south, covering an area of 67.99 mu. There are Memorial square and Gaoyou Martyrs Memorial. The cemetery has a compact layout and elegant environment. Gaoyou martyrs cemetery was awarded Yangzhou patriotism education base in 1997, and was awarded as the key Martyrs Memorial facilities protection unit in Jiangsu Province in 2013. In 2015, the memorial hall of the last battle of the Anti Japanese war inside the martyrs' cemetery was selected as the second batch of national anti Japanese War Memorial facilities and sites.

When general Su Yu visited Yangzhou in 1975, he specially came to Gaoyou martyrs cemetery to pay homage to his dead comrades in arms.

    Gaoyou martyrs cemetery (also known as Gaoyou people's Park) is located in the center of Gaoyou city. It is adjacent to Tonghu road in the north and Xianfu street in the south. Together with the canal scenery belt, butterfly garden square and Yucheng post station, it forms a unique leisure place in the west of Youcheng. The cemetery covers an area of 67.99 mu. There is a peach garden in the South and a lotus pond in the north of the cemetery. The whole layout is compact, the environment is quiet, the trees are shady, and the grass is everywhere.     Historical evolution

    Built in 1887 in the 13th year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty, it was formerly known as Zhongyuan

The tombs of the martyrs include Zhou Shan, Li Jian, Zhou Fen, Zheng Guangyao, Yuan Shunsheng, di Ben, Wan Yu and other famous martyrs. In 2009, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the founding of the people's Republic of China, the cemetery implemented the martyr relief project. The cemetery carried out the centralized burial of the scattered martyrs in the suburbs, expanded the tomb of the unknown martyrs in the Gaoyou campaign separately, and built a scroll wall of martyrs, 3.2 meters high and 39.5 meters long, engraved with the names of more than 1600 martyrs.

    From the 1920s to 1985, with the approval of the people's government at or above the county level and the military organs at or above the division level, 1628 revolutionary martyrs were recognized. Among these martyrs, the most famous are Zhang Tingren, Xia Fengshan, Ge Yueshan, Fang Shousong, Hu Zengyu, Zhang Xuan, Chen teping, Xu Chuanqing, Mao Boqin, Wan Yu, Fang nonggao, Zuo Qing, Qin Meiqing, Zhou Shan, di Ben, Zhai Guang, Xu Wenjin, Zhou Fen, Ge Huaiyuan, Yuan Shunsheng, Hu yunqi, Zheng Guangyao, Li Jian, Wu Qi, sun Ziming, Zhang Yunxiang, etc.
