Huoyan mountain

Huoyan mountain is located in Xihu village, Sanyi Township, Miaoli County, Taiwan. It is the boundary mountain between Sanyi Township and Yuanli town. Its geology is composed of gravel, laterite and sandy soil. Due to its soft soil, eroded by wind and rain, gravel washes and accumulates, and vegetation disappears, forming a red rock layer. Under the sun, the overlapping veins are like a brilliant flame, so it is named Huoyan mountain .

Yanshan Nature Reserve belongs to Quaternary platform accumulation in geology, which is the product of intense orogeny. Its rock layer is mainly composed of thick gravel, intercalated with thin sandstone, with weak cementation. Due to continuous weathering and erosion, the terrain is fragmented, and the cutting surface is often very flat due to the erosion of rainwater, so the combination of sharp peaks and deep valleys are formed in appearance It's a scene full of soft pebbles. If you look at it from the south to the north, you can better show its magnificent landscape. Sometimes there is no water in the south mountain stream, which looks like a pebble river. At the mouth of the valley, "gravel alluvial fan" is formed, which becomes a very special landform. Especially in the afterglow of the setting sun, the whole mountain looks red, as if the flame is beating, so it is called "Huoyan mountain".

In March and April of each year, the northeast monsoon gradually weakens. The Griffin, who used to spend winter in the Philippines, will ride the warm southwest airflow to Huoyan mountain. Because of the attraction of this airflow, the Griffin stays on Huoyan mountain to forage, forming an interesting and warm picture.

Landscape features

Huoyan mountain is 606 meters above sea level, with steep terrain, special landscape and rich animal and plant resources. It is an excellent natural ecological classroom. Huoyan mountain is located on the North Bank of Da'an river. Due to the elevation of the terrain and the direct drive of sea breeze from the mouth of Da'an River, the temperature difference between morning and night is large, and the flora also presents a landscape of high, middle and low altitudes. There are abundant native plants in Taiwan.

There are abundant flora in Huoyan mountain area. At present, as many as 374 species have been found, among which there are rare primary forest areas of Pinus massoniana. At the same time, mountain areas also provide a good habitat for wildlife. Huoyan mountain has precious natural resources, not only unique geological landscape, but also many and outstanding plants. The forestry bureau has listed this resource mountain area as a natural reserve to maintain the valuable natural ecology.

Take the Hsinchu passenger train from Miaoli railway station to Taichung or Houli, get off at bogongkeng station, and then walk to the junction of provincial road 13 and county road 130a to reach dengshankou.
