Zhengyangmen

Founded in 1439, it has a history of nearly 600 years. It is between Qianmen Street and Tiananmen Square. It is the symbol of the old Beijing city.

Taishan Dai Temple has eight gates. The five gates to the south, that is, the Zhengyang gate in the middle.

Development history

Taishan Dai Temple has eight gates. To the south, there are five gates, namely Zhengyang in the middle and Yemen on both sides; on both sides of Yemen, there are Yanggao in the East and Jianda in the West. The east gate is named Donghua, also known as Qingyang; the west gate is named Xihua, also known as Sujing; the north gate is named Houzai, also known as luzhan. The front door is called Wufeng building, and the back door is called Wangyue building. There are turrets at the four corners of the temple wall, which are named according to the eight trigrams: Gen in the northeast, Xun in the southeast, Qian in the northwest and Kun in the southwest. The gatehouse and turret were destroyed in the Republic of China. In 1985, the Zhengyangmen and wufenglou were rebuilt, with yellow tiles covering the top and gold colored painting. They are magnificent and towering. From 1988 to 1989, the second floor of Xun and Kun was rebuilt with colorful brackets and flying eaves. Inside the Zhengyang gate, facing the gate, it is a hall like gate built on a high stone platform. Shutong, a contemporary calligrapher, is hanging on the door. The original statues of Qinglong, Baihu, Zhuque and Xuanwu, which were destroyed in 1928, are now the exhibition room of Dawenkou Culture. On both sides of the original side hall: the East is sanlinghou hall, which is dedicated to Tang Chen, Ge Yong and Zhou Wu; the west is Taiwei hall, which is dedicated to Lang Du?. The two side hall statues were destroyed in 1928.
