Development history

The history of Wenying lake can be traced back to the Northern Song Dynasty. After burning Jinyang City, Taizong of Song dynasty built a new city named Taiyuan city on the basis of Tangming town in 982. Haizibian was a part of the moat at that time. It is said that since the Tang Dynasty, there has been a Jinwen temple in Tangming town (now the seat of Shanxi provincial government). In order to commemorate Wen Ying, the wife of Wen Gong of Jin Dynasty and the daughter of Mu Gong of Qin Dynasty, people called Wenying Lake beside Haizibian. Later generations added three dots of water as the word "Ying" and used to call it Wenying lake.

Main attractions

The famous landscape "xunshuiyanbo" refers to here. It is also known as "eight scenes of Yangqu" together with "juiwei Hongye, Lieshi Hanquan, Fenhe Wandu, Tianmen Xuexue, Tutang strange cypress, Shuangta Lingxiao and Xishan Diecui". It is said that there is a huge "golden rooster" beside Wenying lake, which is the location of Chaoxi gate on the east wall in Song Dynasty. On the East Bank of a hill, every day it first receives the bath of the rising sun, and finally bid farewell to the setting sun, the sun shines all day, golden, like a golden rooster. Legend: in ancient times, a giant turtle lurked at the bottom of the water and became a master of cultivation. Zhang Tianshi saw it through. He pasted it on the mound and lowered it to the bottom of the water. The mound then turned into a golden rooster, which is called Jinjiling. In the early Ming Dynasty, when the city was expanded, the mountains and lakes were all surrounded in the city. Every summer and autumn, the clouds and rainbow were beautiful. The people of Jin Dynasty called it "xunshui Yanbo". "Xun" is the southeast direction of Bagua, and Wenying lake is in the southeast of its city, so it is called xunshui. It is also a place for culture and education, a concentrated area of Confucian temples and Gongyuan. During the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty, Jining daolianjia cleaned up the "Wenying Lake", built a small pavilion in the southeast of the North Lake, inscribed with "Yingcui Pavilion", set up wooden fences around the lake, and placed boats indoors, forming the original prototype of the Gongyuan, becoming a scenic tourist destination. When the sun rises in the East, the beautiful shadow of Wenfeng's twin towers is often reflected in Wenying lake, just like two giant pens in the open inkstone pool ready to draw ink. Because there were many famous scholars in Shanxi at that time, there was a good saying that "the precious pen and the precious ink cast the unique prose". It is said that a monk from the South came to Wenying lake and found the beautiful scenery. He couldn't help praising: "no wonder there are many famous scholars in Shanxi, so Fengshui is also a treasure land.".
