Peacock pine is as loose as green. The peacock stands erect with its head high. One branch of the pine bends and stretches toward the direction of white goose ridge, just like the peacock's head. Behind it, there are several peacock like wings and tail feathers. It is about to spread its wings, as if to fly south, so it is called "peacock pine".

The leaves are subulate, straight, apex usually not inflected, acute or sharp, 0.4-2cm long, with stomatal lines on all sides.
Male cones oblong or cylindrical, about 7 mm long, 2.5 mm in diameter, stamens with 4-5 anthers, connective triangular; female cones globose. Cones subglobose, sparsely oblate, 1.5-2.5 cm in diameter, There are 20-30 seed scales, the cleft teeth of bract scale tip and seed scale apex are short, the cleft teeth are long, narrow triangle, 6-7mm long, there is a triangular separated bract scale tip on the scale back, the apex is usually curved outwards, the breeding scale has 2-5 seeds, the seeds are brown, elliptic or irregular polygonal, 5-6mm long, 2-3mm in diameter, and the edge has narrow wings. The flowering period is April and the cones mature in October.
Growth environment
It is a medium-sized positive tree, slightly resistant to shade and cold. It can grow in Zhengzhou, Henan Province and Tai'an, Shandong Province. It can grow in the area where the annual average temperature is 14 ° to 19 ℃ and the average temperature in January is above 0 ℃. It likes high air humidity and is afraid of hot or drought in summer. It grows well when the precipitation reaches about 1000mm. They like to grow on deep and fertile sandy loam, but they are very poor in the clay land with strong sunshine in the West. The root is easy to rot in the place of ponding. The branches are flexible and resistant to snow and ice.

cultivation techniques
It can be propagated by sowing and cutting. The mother tree can bear fruit every year, but the harvest is usually once every two years. More than 5 kg seeds can be obtained per 100 kg cones; about 250000 seeds can be obtained per kg cones; the 1000 seed weight is 4 kg, the germination rate is about 60%, the seedling rate is about 20-30%, and the seed storage is one year. The seeds were sown in spring in Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces, and germinated after 3-4 weeks. In summer, there is a shade shed and in winter, there is a warm shed. The height of the seedlings was about 15 cm in the first year and transplanted in the next spring. The height of 2-year-old and 3-year-old seedlings were about 30cm and 60cm respectively.
