Xinjiang science and Technology Museum was founded in October 1985, with a construction area of 10119 square meters. In the new century, in order to better serve the majority of scientific and technological workers and the people of all ethnic groups, the Party committee and the people's Government of the autonomous region have decided to reconstruct and expand the Xinjiang science and Technology Museum as a key infrastructure construction project for the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Autonomous Region. The reconstruction and expansion project of Xinjiang science and Technology Museum was started in April 2005 and completed in July 2008. The new building area of Xinjiang science and Technology Museum is 26602 square meters, including 11117 square meters of exhibition hall, 8609 square meters of conference and training room, 3663 square meters of office room and 3213 square meters of auxiliary room (equipment transfer floor, underground garage, lobby, etc.). According to the plan approved by the national development and Reform Commission and the regional development and Reform Commission, the total investment of the project is 121.95 million yuan.

In accordance with the requirements of the Party committee and the people's Government of the autonomous region to build the new Xinjiang science and Technology Museum into a comprehensive and modern science and Technology Museum, the Association for science and technology of the autonomous region adheres to the innovative construction concept, strives to highlight the characteristics of Xinjiang, CO build positions, share resources, and open the museum. After repeated argumentation by experts, the new museum of Xinjiang science and technology is reconstructed and expanded on the basis of immovable original site, reinforced house foundation and unchanged main building structure. First, the main body of the old museum is not demolished, which can save a lot of building materials, reduce costs, and reduce a lot of solid construction waste, meeting the requirements of energy conservation and environmental protection. Second, in the reconstruction and expansion of the project, a number of new technologies and new processes are adopted, such as steel bonding reinforcement, carbon fiber reinforcement, shotcrete reinforcement, planting plate welding reinforcement, steel sleeve cold extrusion, steel structure layer frame jacking and so on. The technical difficulty and structural complexity are rare in China, ensuring the full utilization of the original buildings and engineering quality. Third, in strict accordance with the national "science and technology museum construction standards", in the building three cone, four cone, window lighting, external wall insulation, floor heating and other aspects are in accordance with environmental protection and energy saving design and construction.
