Guancai building

It was built in 1931, and another name is Shubi building. Because you can see the beautiful sunset on the top floor, it is called guancailou.

Once the owner of Sanyi was a villa designed by Dutch Engineers (contracted by Xu Chuncao construction company). Later, it was sold to Ding Yushu, and finally it was owned by Chen Simin, the boss of Shanghai guchiling toothpaste factory. Now that Chen's descendants are no longer living here, the villa has been vacant.

On February 25, 2010, I came to the guancailou on Gulangyu Island. I didn't see the old man who had let people in for 5 yuan before. Instead, an iron general locked the door. In the afterglow of the setting sun, the guancailou brings a kind of incomplete loneliness and loneliness. Especially, the momentum at the foot of the guancailou is forcing people to repair the new Yizu villa, which makes it more decadent·

Basic introduction

1. Address and owner of Guancai building:

Guancai building is located at No.6, Bishan Road, on the top of Bijia mountain. It was built in 1931. There is another name called Shubi building. Because you can see the beautiful sunset on the top floor, it is called guancailou. The villa was designed by Dutch Engineers (contracted by Xu Chuncao construction company) and sold to Ding Yushu. In the end, it was owned by Chen Simin, the boss of Shanghai guchiling toothpaste factory. Now the descendants of Chen family no longer live here, and the villa has been vacant

Go up the stairs on the right hand side of Bishan cave next to our shop (happy sunshine Inn on Gulangyu Island) and walk up the slope on the right side of Bishan park. You can get there in about two or three minutes!

2. Two figurative metaphors about Guancai building:

1) People say that the roof is like a bridal sedan chair, which is jokingly called "the bride's baby". This metaphor makes it more ornamental and romantic.

2) Many islanders call it "coffin house" because they think that the appearance of the two buildings is imaginary, and there is a homonym. The saying of coffin house is not derogatory, but commendatory, because it means to get promoted and make a fortune

Architectural highlights

1) Guancailou is the tallest building on Gulangyu Island. Its biggest attraction is not the architectural design itself, but the ability to enter the guancailou without any barrier. You can see the panoramic scenery of Gulangyu Island, the rosy clouds all over the sky, and the sea you can see before and after. It is no less beautiful than the beautiful scenery you can see from sunlight rock, This is due to its superior geographical location. Because it is not as high as the sunlight rock, the scenery is more clear. However, due to years of disrepair, the owner does not know where to go, visitors have been unable to enter the color building, to enjoy the imagined beauty, only through the iron door and the damaged window watchtower sighed! Even if you enter, this villa can only serve as a staircase, let people climb high and look far away, inside has changed beyond recognition.

2) Guancailou is a three story European villa designed by Dutch engineers. It has a classic noble bearing and is novel at the same time. We can see a little bit of the retro shadow of the European Renaissance.

3) Three highlights:

Entrance: use two rope like gateposts to replace the wide corridor commonly used in Europe. It's still very impressive now! Chinese style cloud decoration pattern. Twisted rope gate post, very characteristic.

Window: the window cover and the window edge are carved with the whole stone. The European Musketeer in the middle of the window lintel is also carved out of the whole stone. The Musketeer's face is cleverly composed of the Musketeer's hat and the headband. The artistic technique is simple and sophisticated, and it is very beautiful and elegant.

Roof: a unique roof, arc-shaped back, divided by the edge line, is both an external wall and a female wall. B arched dormer windows (that is, round arched windows) protrude from the wall, with six. C. the overhanging eaves are large and exaggerated, and the three-dimensional sense is very strong. D is the roof, but it is the third floor

4) Others:

The center is the hall, surrounded by bedrooms, and the outdoor is the roof, which is connected with the hall to enjoy the cool scenery.

Window carving: it's quite exquisite, and it's worth stopping and enjoying.

Jade white granite: Quanzhou white granite, a specialty of South Fujian! It is applied to the exterior wall, column and window lintel of the first floor, which is very rare. The gap between the door frame of the gate is so tight that no cement can be seen.

Teak: doors, internal stairs, doors, windows and half walls are made of teak. (the steel gate is rusty, but the teak gate is intact)

Basement: under the stairs leading to the small garden, there is a basement built according to the mountain, which can prevent moisture and store things. The garden wall turns over to be the back garden of Yizu villa

Small back door: there is a small back door beside the small garden under the big balcony. It is full of ivy, and some of them are defeated. There is a small air raid shelter, a well and banyan trees in the small garden. I can only imagine the happy and leisurely scene here.
