Shooting background

In 1956, Wan Gu Chan, one of Wan's three brothers, was influenced by the creation and development of animation films in the mainland and the government's emphasis on animation. He returned from Hong Kong to Shanghai to work in Shanghai Art Film Studio. He wanted to realize a long-standing idea of making paper-cut animated films. At the beginning of 1957, Wan Gu Chan led Chen Zhenghong, Zhan Tong, Liu Fengzhan, Xie Yougen, Che Hui, Du Chunfu and Hu Jinqing to form a paper-cut experimental group and began to make preparations for paper-cut. Their first attempt was unsuccessful, and the characters were not positioned during the manipulation, so the movements of the characters were very shaking.
