Historical evolution

In the Han Dynasty, Shipai belonged to Jiangxia County, the governor of Jingzhou.

During the Three Kingdoms period, it was named Jingcheng, belonging to jiangxia'e, Jingzhou, Wu state.

In the northern and Southern Dynasties, it was named Anju County, belonging to Jian'an county.

In Sui Dynasty, Anju county was changed to zhaoqiu County in the first year of Daye (605). Zhaoding county was changed to Jingtai County and Dangyang county was abandoned.

In the Tang Dynasty, in the eighth year of Zhenguan (634), the land of Jingtai was merged into Jingmen, belonging to Jingmen County, Jingzhou, the east of Shannan.

In the Five Dynasties, it belonged to the Late Jin Dynasty. Gao Jichang, the king of Nanping, established his residence in Jingtai. It belonged to the Jingmen army in Jinghu North Road.

In the Song Dynasty, it belonged to the Jingmen army on Jinghu North Road.

In the Yuan Dynasty, it belonged to Changshou County, Anlu Prefecture, Henan Province.

In the early years of the Republic of China (1911), Shipai town was set up, belonging to Zhongyang County; in the third year (1914), the police branch was set up.

In 1941, it was occupied by Japanese army and surrendered in August 1945.

On August 16, 1949, Shipai was liberated.

In July 1949, Shipai district was set up, belonging to Zhongxiang county.

In December 1950, Shipai district was renamed the Sixth District of Zhongxiang county.

In January 1951, the three townships of Huoshan, Macheng and Douli were put under the jurisdiction of Jingmen county.

In March 1984, Zhongxiang County removed the community and built a district (town), abolished the Shipai people's commune, and established Shipai district and Shipai town under the jurisdiction of the county.

In October 1987, Zhongxiang County removed the district and merged township (town), abolished Heji district and established Heji township; abolished Shipai district and merged it into Shipai town.
