Zhongyingpan reservoir is located on the main stream of Yuxi River in Wuding River system of zhongyingpan village, Mengjiawan Township, Yulin City, Shaanxi Province. The control basin area above the dam site is 606.7 square kilometers, belonging to the wind sand area.

The average annual precipitation of the reservoir is 400mm, the average annual runoff is 74.14 million cubic meters, and the average annual sediment discharge is 100000 tons. The project was designed and constructed by Yulin Hydropower Bureau, started in March 1970 and completed in October 1972. The reservoir is mainly irrigated and has the benefits of power generation, fish culture and sand control. The total investment of the project is 1.35 million yuan, including 850000 yuan invested by the state and 330000 projects invested by the masses

Key project

The reservoir complex is composed of dam and water delivery pipeline, without flood discharge facilities. The dam is a homogeneous sand dam with a height of 27 meters, a crest elevation of 1224 meters, a crest length of 670 meters and a width of 6 meters. The upstream slope is 1 ∶ 8-10 and the downstream slope is 1 ∶ 5-6. The dam foundation is not provided with anti-seepage treatment, and the back rockfill body is used for drainage. The total storage capacity is 19 million cubic meters, and the effective storage capacity is 16.9 million cubic meters.

Horizontal pipe is used for water conveyance, with 12 levels and 24 holes in total, and the height difference of each level is 1m. The bottom elevation of the lowest level hole is 1208.41m. The maximum water delivery capacity is 7 cubic meters per second. The horizontal pipe is followed by a 1.35 m high, 1.2 m wide and 195 m long horseshoe shaped water conveyance tunnel. A diversion sluice and a 12 m drop back channel are built at the outlet.

Since it was put into use in 1973, in addition to ensuring water supply for Yudong canal irrigation area, it has also provided water for 6 canals of Yugao, Yudi, Sanchawan, Chengguan, Niujialiang, heihaize, two pumping stations in southern and northern suburbs, and Mengjiawan hydropower station in the downstream of the reservoir in dry season, with an irrigation area of nearly 100000 mu. In terms of irrigation, it mainly supplies water for Yudong canal irrigation area, with facility irrigation area of 10000 mu and effective irrigation area of 9200 mu. The benefit of fish culture in the reservoir is good, with the highest annual output reaching 45000 kg.
