Tonggu Town, belonging to Jinping County, Guizhou Province, is located in the east of Jinping County, on the border of Hunan and Guizhou. It is a minority inhabited area with Dong and Miao as the main ethnic groups. Agriculture, industry and mining have a good development. The total area of the town is 150 square kilometers, with more than 9900 mu of cultivated land. The town governs 12 villages, 96 villager groups, 3043 households, 13651 people, 8143 labor force, including 4319 male labor force, 3824 female labor force, 12896 agricultural population and 11150 permanent resident population. It is a concentrated area of Dong and Miao ethnic minorities, and the ethnic minorities account for 85% of the total population.

Geography and climate

Tonggu town is a hilly and basin mountainous area with little relief, flat and open terrain. The valley basins are staggered with each other, with an altitude of 300-600 meters. The soil types are mainly siliceous yellow soil, siliceous lead yellow soil and limestone soil. The soil layer is thick and fertile, and the rocks are mainly limestone, mudstone and sandstone. The whole town has a subtropical monsoon climate, with an average annual temperature of 17 ℃, a frost free period of 320 days, an average annual rainfall of 130 mm, a maximum temperature of 38 ℃, a minimum temperature of minus 4 ℃, and an annual sunshine duration of 1086 hours.

Historical evolution

Tonggu town has a long history. In the ancient Han Dynasty, it was Jingzhou county. In the Tang Dynasty, it was the governor's office. Tonggu was located in Liangzhou and Tonggu village. Yuganhusuo was set up in the 21st year of Minghong. In the 30th year, it was changed into tongguwei. In the 5th year of Yongzheng, it was abandoned tongguwei. Jinping County was set up. In the 12th year of Daoguang, it was changed into a township and set up a county head. Tonggu County was re established in the first year of the Republic of China and moved to Wuyi village in the third year of the Republic of China. There are many places of interest such as Jiangjun tomb, ancient city wall, imperial concubine tomb, baiyun temple, Weicheng stele, Fengming tower, etc. there are also some scenic spots such as Tianlong mountain primeval forest, Bahe reservoir area, jijinjia cave, etc.

There are 43 industrial and mining enterprises in Tonggu Town, with 1080 employees at the end of the year and a total industrial output value of 10.6 million yuan. Among them, there are 135 industrial and mining enterprises of a certain scale: Huaqiao gold mine, Tonggu artillery factory and Huaqiao whitewash Taiping, and other township enterprises in the town. State grid power supply has been realized in the town. 80% of the farmers have carried out rural network transformation. The installed capacity of program-controlled fixed telephone is 2000. Program controlled telephone has been set up in 9 villages with 1080 users. The website of China Mobile and China Unicom has been opened successively in the town in 2001. The popularization rate of cable TV has reached 95%. There is an optional water supply plant in the town, which can fully meet the needs of local residents.

Tonggu Town, as the first big sheep raising town in eastern Guizhou, has actively introduced breeding sheep from Sichuan, Yunnan and Hunan since 1995, and purebred Boer goat since 2003. There are high-quality breeds such as black goat, white goat, chuantong goat, Nanjiang Yellow Goat, Mayang goat and Boer goat. In 2003, there are more than 10000 goats in stock.

Tonggu is one of the most important grain and oil producing areas in the county. It is famous for its rich gold. It has proven 112 tons of gold reserves, rich iron ore reserves, 54.6% forest coverage, 370000 cubic meters of wood reserves, and rich in wood resources. Meanwhile, there are abundant water resources in the town, which makes it difficult for Liangjiang River to pass Sanzhong hydropower station and sandongkan hydropower station in the upper reaches of Bahe River are under planning and design. There is a small and medium-sized reservoir in the town with a capacity of 400000 cubic meters.
