Nanjing University of science and technology is one of the first batch of key universities directly under the Commission of science, technology and industry for national defense and one of the key construction universities of "211 Project". After more than 50 years of construction, it has developed into a science and Engineering University with engineering as the main subject and comprehensive and coordinated development of science, engineering, arts, economics, management, law, education and other disciplines.

Zijin College of Nanjing University of science and technology is a public private secondary college of Nanjing University of science and technology, which was approved by the former state Ordnance Industry Corporation and the former Jiangsu Provincial Education Commission in 1999. In 2004, with the approval of the Ministry of education, the college was transformed into an independent college. The nature of the college is private undergraduate education, which is jointly organized by Nanjing University of technology and social forces. Nanjing University of science and technology is responsible for guiding the formulation and implementation of teaching plans for various majors, selecting, recommending and approving core curriculum teachers for various majors, and monitoring the teaching quality. The college now has six departments, including mechanical department, electro-optic department, economic management department, Humanities Department, computer department and basic teaching department, with 23 undergraduate majors. The Faculty of the college is mainly composed of teachers from Nanjing University of technology, supplemented by full-time teachers.

The college campus is located in Xianlin University Town, Nanjing. It was founded in 2003 and covers an area of 613 mu. Xianlin University Town is located at the foot of Zijin Mountain in the east of Nanjing City, with beautiful ecological environment, profound cultural heritage and beautiful natural scenery. There are 11 universities, such as Nanjing University, Nanjing Normal University, Nanjing University of traditional Chinese medicine, Nanjing University of Posts and telecommunications, Nanjing University of Finance and economics, with universities as the center and complete supporting service facilities.
