The College of science and technology of Xinjiang University was established in August 2002. In January 2004, it passed the examination and approval of the Ministry of education of the people's Republic of China on the qualification of running a school, and became one of the first batch of Independent Colleges in China. In January 2005, it successfully passed the comprehensive school running inspection of the Ministry of education of the people's Republic of China. At present, there are 3346 undergraduates in the college, with 15 majors (18 professional directions).  

Xinjiang University is a comprehensive university with the largest scale, the longest history, the most complete disciplines and the highest level of scientific research in Xinjiang. It is the only national key university in Xinjiang. It is one of the 100 universities of "211 Project" under the national key construction in the 21st century. It is also a University jointly built by the Ministry of education and the autonomous region. As a national key undergraduate college, Xinjiang University holds independent college, which is the reform and innovation of China's higher education mode. It is an effective measure to solve the contradiction between the demand of economic and social development for all kinds of talents, the strong desire of the people to accept higher education opportunities and the insufficient supply and demand of higher education. At present, one third of the students come from 18 provinces (autonomous regions) in the mainland. It is planned to recruit 1000 students in 2008.

The college enrolls students in the third batch of undergraduate courses. After enrollment, the students basically enjoy the same treatment as the first batch of students admitted by Xinjiang University (including the development of Party and League organizations, excellent evaluation, scholarship evaluation, national grants evaluation, employment guidance, etc.), but the students do not enjoy special subsidy and tuition fee reduction. Upon graduation, if the students have passed the examination, they will be issued with the bachelor's degree certificate of the College of science and technology of Xinjiang University, which is uniformly printed by the state.
