Nanchang Institute of technology is a full-time application-oriented undergraduate college and a bachelor's degree awarding authority unit with the characteristics of engineering oriented, multi-disciplinary coordinated development and prominent ethnic education. Founded in 1988, the school is the first private education in Jiangxi Province. It has experienced several historical development periods, such as Ganjiang University, Ganjiang specialized college, Ganjiang vocational and technical college and Nanchang Institute of technology.

The school covers an area of 1183.5 mu, and the total value of teaching and scientific research equipment is 127 million yuan. It has 18 experimental training centers, 13 scientific and technological innovation platforms and 102 stable off campus training bases. The library has self-study room, postgraduate entrance examination room, E-reading room and coffee leisure reading area, with a collection of 1.9182 million paper books and 1.11339 million e-books.

The university has 10 secondary colleges, 42 undergraduate majors and 33 junior college majors, covering 7 disciplines including engineering, economics, management, literature, law, art and education. There are more than 24000 students and 1513 teaching staff. In the past three years, teachers and students have completed 116 provincial and ministerial level projects, published 1912 papers (Monographs), obtained 196 utility model patents, and won 904 awards in various provincial and above competitions.

The school is now the "two reforms" pilot unit of the "comprehensive reform of Minority College application-oriented talents training oriented by enhancing employability" and "comprehensive reform of minority preparatory education with ideological and political education as the core" by the Department of ethnic education of the Ministry of education and Jiangxi Provincial Department of education, and the first batch of "pilot colleges for transformation and development to application-oriented universities" by Jiangxi Provincial People's government. The goal of talent cultivation is "qualified in politics, healthy in body and mind, theory in place and practical in skills". We should deepen the teaching reform, strengthen the second classroom and refine the financial aid service, so that students can really "get in, learn well, get out and use". The school's ethnic education and applied talents training have been widely recognized by the society. It has been awarded "national model collective of national unity and progress" by the State Council, and "National Model School of national unity and progress" by the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee, the Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee and the National People's commission. At the end of 2017, the university successfully passed the undergraduate teaching qualification assessment of the Ministry of education.
