In December 2003, the college was approved by the Ministry of education as one of the first batch of 35 pilot software vocational and technical colleges. In 2004, Guangdong Provincial Department of education determined the college as a provincial demonstrative software vocational and technical college. In 2004, the Ministry of education and the Commission of science, technology and industry for national defense designated the major of "computer aided design and manufacturing" as the training base for skilled talents in the application field of numerical control technology in China.
