According to the China Table Tennis Association, the Chinese table tennis team will not form a team to participate in the 2021 Asian Championship held in Qatar from September 28 to October 5. After completing the isolation of returning from the Olympic Games, the national table tennis players will invest in the 14th National Games held in Shaanxi.

Qin Zhijian, Secretary General of China Table Tennis Association, said in an interview that after completing the task of participating in the Tokyo Olympic Games, the national table tennis players not only return to their local teams to participate in the National Games, but also prepare for a series of events such as the Houston World Table Tennis Championships and the Table Tennis Super League. The overall task of participating in the second half of the year is relatively heavy.

Qin Zhijian said that the table tennis competition of the National Games will be held from September 17 to 26, and the Asian Championships will open on September 28. The interval is very short. Combined with the current flight situation, it is difficult for the national table tennis team to arrive in Qatar as scheduled. At the same time, the current global epidemic situation is still severe, and there are great risks in international travel competition. If participating in the Asian Championships, the participants need to be closed and isolated for another 21 or 28 days after returning home, which will affect the next competition plan of the national team, especially the preparation and training of the Houston World Table Tennis Championships, which is not conducive to the cultivation and development of young players. Therefore, after comprehensive study and judgment, the male and female coaches of Guoping decided not to participate in the Asian Championships from the perspective of the whole team.

Li falcon, head coach of the national table tennis women's team, said that not participating in the Asian Championships has little impact on the Chinese team“ This year's Asian Championships is mainly used as the qualification of next year's Chengdu World Table Tennis Championships. As the host, we have obtained the qualification. " Li Falcon added, "after completing the task of the Olympic Games, the players should first adjust their bodies, and then make full preparations for the National Games and the world championships. Not going to the Asian Championships is the best choice for the team's preparation and overall development."

At present, the teams still in isolation still carry out continuous physical training, hoping to meet the National Games in a better state. Qin Zhijian said: "after the isolation, the team members will return to their local teams to prepare for the National Games in more than ten days."

With regard to the competition arrangement of the national team in the second half of the year, Qin Zhijian revealed: "the China Table Tennis Association plans to hold the 2021 annual Table Tennis Super League in October, hoping to train young players through the platform of Table Tennis Super." After that, the team will enter the preparations for the Houston World Table Tennis Championships.

After the Tokyo Olympic Games, the Chinese table tennis team also started the preparations for the Paris cycle. Qin Zhijian and Li Falcon both expressed the hope that the new and old players of the team can restart the competition in the second half of the year, especially in the world table tennis championships. They also look forward to the emergence of more young athletes.

The Houston World Table Tennis Championships will be held in the United States from November 23 to 29, 2021.
