The eye is in the middle of the head. The hypopharyngeal teeth are 3 rows, slender and slightly hooked at the end. The scales are 73-79 in the abdomen, slightly curved to the abdomen, entering and extending to the central axis of caudal fin base. The scales are small, but larger along the lateral line. The dorsal fin is Ⅲ 7, with hard spines and serrated posterior margin. The ventral fin is located before the origin of the dorsal fin. The starting point of anal fin Ⅲ 5 is below the end of dorsal fin. The whole body is pale yellow, the back is slightly bluish gray, there are many black spots near the back, and the fins are golden yellow.

Most of them live in still water lakes, and usually inhabit in the outlet and deep water of lakes. It mainly feeds on small fish and spawns in early summer. It is distributed in Kunming Lake and Yangzonghai lake in the east of Yunnan Province.
