Shrubs, about 1 m high. The root is stout and the skin is brown. Branches spreading, skin pale gray, branchlets apex spiny. Leaves clustered on old branches, opposite on young branches; petioles 8-25 mm long; leaflets 1 pair, elliptic linear or spatulate, fleshy, apex obtuse, base gradually narrowed, 8-24 mm long and 2-5 mm wide. Calyx green, margin slightly membranous, about 5-7 mm long; petals yellow, 9-11 mm long; stamens longer than corolla. Capsule broad elliptic, 18-23 mm long, 17-26 mm wide, with 3 broad wings, membranous; 3-locular, each containing 1 seed, often 1-locular seed undeveloped. Seeds reniform, 6-7 mm long, 2.5 mm wide.

It is found in sandy river terraces, low mountain slopes, gravel hills and dry river beds in desert areas. Distributed in Gansu, Ningxia, Inner Mongolia, Qinghai, Xinjiang and other places.
