Plant morphology

Evergreen shrubs or trees, up to 12 meters high. Stems and branches with reddish brown prickles. Leaves alternate; odd pinnate compound leaves, leaflets 7-23; total axis 7-12 cm long, with few or no spines; leaflets oblong obovate or obliquely oblong, 2-5 cm long, 1-2 cm wide, terminal leaflets oblong, up to 7 cm long, apex obtuse, base narrow into a short stalk, margin slightly wavy; or above the middle there is no obvious shallow circular serration. Panicle terminal, 3-divergent, or 2-3 times umbelliform branches, ca. as long as leaves; peduncle 5-9 cm long; flowers unisexual, sepals 5, ovate; petals 5, white, ca. 2 mm long; stamens of male flowers 5, carpodes short; stamens of female flowers reduced to scales, carpels 2, stigmas capitate.
