[plant morphology] Xigu coconut, also known as Shamu (a collection of Materia Medica) and shagu (a study of the eastern and Western oceans).

Evergreen trees. The height of the stem is 10-20 meters. Most of the buds sprout from the base of the stem. When young, the sheath around the petiole has hard spines, and some of them grow gradually and lose them. Therefore, it can be divided into two types: "spiny" and "non spiny". The leaves are feathery, rather like coconut. Conic flower cluster, pedicel is quite large, with many light red flowers, covered by yellowish brown glossy scales, and fruits as large as plums.

It is widely cultivated in Nanyang islands.

[preparation method] before flowering, cut the trunk, break it longitudinally, then pour it into the river to soften it, remove the skin, take the pulp, and use the common starch preparation method to make starch through crushing, screening and filtration, repeated rinsing, sedimentation and drying. The purest color is white, and the second is brownish. When the starch is not very dry in the sun, it is crushed and put into cloth bags, shaken into fine grains, and then dried in the sun. Pure quality and white color are called "Zhenzhu Xigu".
