[plant morphology] Bupleurum chinense with milk
The perennial root is erect and herbaceous, 30-50 cm in height. White milk flows out after all broken. Root strip, thick long, deep into the soil, as long as 60 cm. Several stems tufted, with ridges, and brown hirsute. Single leaf alternate, oblanceolate to linear oblanceolate, 5-7 cm long, 0.5-1 cm wide, apex acuminate to long acuminate, base narrowly cuneate, extending into a short stalk; leaf margin sparsely spined. The inflorescence is arranged as 2-branched cymose corymb; involucre is bell shaped, bracts are 2-row, linear, short outside and long inside; flowers are all tongue shaped, corolla is yellow, achenes are thin columnar, dark brown, with fine ridges and rich white hairs.
It grows in the grass on the hillside or under the pine forest. It is distributed in Yunnan and other places.

Functions and indications: dispelling wind, dispersing cold, eliminating inflammation and detoxification. Treatment of cold, upper respiratory tract infection, trachea, bronchitis.
