A brief introduction to Qu Wo's Qinshu

Applicant: Quwo County, Shanxi Province

Quwo Qinshu is a form of Quyi storytelling, which is formed and mainly popular in Quwo County in the south of Shanxi Province and its surrounding areas. Because the performance was accompanied by alternately beating octagonal drums and cymbals, it was called "guershu" or "jiaozishu". It is generally believed that Yuediao (also known as Yuediao), which was introduced from Nanyang of Henan Province in the Daoguang period of Qing Dynasty, evolved from the combination of local dialect and ditty. It has a history of about 130 years.

The performance form of Quwo Qinshu is rap and singing, mainly singing, using Quwo dialect. In the early stage, most of them were accompanied by a clapper with one hand. They used the local dialect of Quwo to sit and rap. There were also performances of self pulling Sihu and treading on wooden fish, or playing a dulcimer with one hand and hitting a sideboard with the other. Later, there was a way of performing with many people. The libretto is mainly composed of seven character sentences, four sentences in one paragraph, and even numbered sentences rhyme. The singing style is a mixture of banpai and Zhuangzi tunes. "Jiaozi tune" is the melody sung by the leading actor when accompanied by a single cymbal. It is the main body of the aria and belongs to the plate cavity structure. It mainly includes four types of plate, namely adagio, Erbao, jinerbao and Feiban, as well as functional singing sentences such as "Jiaoban", "Da tanyun" and "Xiao tanyun". "GuZi tune" is the aria performed by the leading actor when accompanied by a octagonal drum, which is inserted into the "Jiaozi tune" It belongs to monosyllabic structure. The two kinds of singing are different in pitch, so it is necessary to change the tune when singing alternately. In addition to octagonal drum, small hinge and wooden fish, Sihu, Yangqin, Banhu, Sanxian, dizi and erhu can also be used as accompaniment instruments.

The traditional programs of Quwo Qinshu are rich, including long books based on classical novels, medium books created by literati, short books based on folklore and mythology, and some humorous and witty little book caps. However, with the social changes, the number of performances has decreased sharply, and the artists are in urgent need of rescue and protection.
