Introduction to shadow play (Tengchong shadow play)

Tengchong shadow play has a history of six or seven hundred years, which is divided into two major schools, namely "Xiqiang" and "Dongqiang". Dongqiang shadow play mainly serves the southeast of Tengchong County and Bazi city in Yunnan Province. In 1932, at the invitation of the chieftain of Ganya (jinyingjiang), he went to the old city to perform "fan Lihua's expedition to the west" for 49 days. Later, at the invitation of the border people and overseas Chinese, he went to Nankan, Myanmar to perform more than 30 plays such as "sun Pang Douzhi" and "baoliandeng". In 1961, he was invited to Kunming to perform "Changbanpo" and "beheading three demons" for the Dai, Bai, Zhuang and Yi national drama performance in Yunnan Province, and won a special honor award. In June 2000, Gudong town of Tengchong was named "the hometown of Chinese folk art (shadow play)" by the Ministry of culture. In September 2003, Tengchong liujiazhai shadow play, as the only shadow play representative in Southwest China, went to Guangzhou to participate in the second national puppet shadow play competition of "Golden Lion Award", and won the Bronze Award for performance (comprehensive). Shadow artists Liu Yongzhou and Liu Dingsan won the modeling production award.
