Small deciduous shrub, about 3 m high. Stem erect, or curved into arch, reddish brown or purplish red, often powdery, with flat hooked prickles. Leaflets 3-7, mostly 5, terminal leaflets larger, rhomboid ovate, both leaflets ovate, 3-6 cm long, 1.5-4 cm wide, apex acute, base broadly cuneate or suborbicular, margin irregularly coarsely serrate, below along the vein there are pilose; stipules linear. Corymbs terminal or axillary, hairy; sepals 5, lanceolate, apex caudate, outside pilose; petals 5, pink obovate, shorter than sepals; stamens numerous; pistils numerous, style subterminal. Aggregate fruit small, ovate, red when ripe. The flowering period is from April to May. The fruit period is from July to August.
It grows in the hillside shrub, the side of mountain road or forest, the side of ditch and so on. It is distributed in Henan, Shaanxi, Gansu, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Hubei, Sichuan and other places.
