In 2010, Ma began to perform folk music. In 2011, Ma Kai organized a folk music brand named "sesame oil leaf" in Douban, whose name originated from the homophony of "Ma Youye"; in the same year, he played the fourth episode of the micro film series "Chun Jiao and Zhi Ming" directed by Zhang neixian.

In 2013, he was invited to participate in "Taiyuan natural awakening Music Festival" and "Changchun strawberry Music Festival"; on October 21, he signed a contract with modern sky after participating in all kinds of music festivals held by modern sky; in the same year, he played the leading role in Zhang neixian's film "those days with five spines and six beasts", which was his first film.

On September 26, 2014, the first officially released single "nanshannan" was premiered through Netease cloud music; on October 31, the national tour of Gudao (Dongdu chapter) kicked off in Xuzhou; on November 6, the first personal music album "Gudao" was released; on February 6, he attended the first Huakai Chinese Folk Music Festival on the other side, and sang two songs "Aohan" and "nanshannan".

On January 1, 2016, the national tour of "the song of lonely birds" was held in Shanghai; in the same year, the individual original single "Wang Ruoshan" was released, which was included in the collection of "music portrait"; on June 21, 2016, the individual original single "none is true"; in November of the same year, the "isolated speech Series Concert" was held.

On March 21, 2017, he launched the song "wild geese" chorus with wenque; on April 9, 2017, he won the best folk singer and Band Award of the year of "the 17th annual music festival"; on July 19, he launched the song "Wednesday or Wednesday" chorus with Wei ruxuan. In August 2018, he was also included in Forbes China's "30 elites under the age of 30" (music field).

In March 2020, he joined iqiyi's self-made Chinese singer ecological challenge program "I am the singer Season 2" as the first guest; on December 10, the final song "drink frost" for the film "young girl Jiahe" was officially launched.
