Jiangtang lantern dance is a folk dance popular in Jiangtang village, shezhu Town, Liyang City, Jiangsu Province. It shows the scenes of Yang family general fighting bloody battles, fighting against the enemy and celebrating victory together in the Northern Song Dynasty.
It has been handed down from generation to generation that Jiangtang lantern dance began in the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty. It originated from the etiquette of Yushun, the leader of Jiangtang rebel army, when he offered sacrifices to the Yang family general, the hero of anti Liao war.
The performance of Jiang Tang's Lantern Dance is divided into two halves: in the first half, the changing formation of ten divine generals and ten divine horses shows that Yang Jiajiang leads the people to fight bloody battles, fight against the enemy and win; in the second half, the ten divine horses and ten divine generals arrange the array of "Tian, Xia, Tai and Ping" one by one to celebrate the victory and wish all the people live and work in peace and contentment.
Jiangtang Lantern Dance integrates folk sacrifice and entertainment, commemorating national heroes in the form of dance to express people's hope for peace in the world. It is a traditional folk art integrating folk dance, national costumes and folk art, and has high artistic aesthetic value.
