Introduction to palm fan dance
Applicant: Yuanjiang Hani Yi Dai Autonomous County, Yunnan Province
Brown fan dance is a traditional Hani dance, which is popular in the Hani villages at the junction of Honghe and Yuanjiang counties in Yunnan Province.
In the traditional festivals and life etiquette activities of Hani people, such as angmatu (ancestor worship Festival), kuzaza (June Festival) and zalete (October Festival), people have to dress up for banquet, sing and dance, hold a palm leaf in both hands and dance a palm fan dance.
There are more than 60 routines of brown fan dance. Before dancing, old people should lead the dance and sing ancient songs and congratulatory speeches. Participants are free to form a circle, with men inside and women outside. The elder dances first, and the younger follow up. When the dance is successful, they compete to enter the circle to show their dancing skills.
Brown fan dance has a long history. Most of the dance movements are imitations of the forms of birds and animals that Hani ancestors met during their migration, and imitations of daily production and living conditions. For example, it imitates the flying of Silver Pheasant, drinking water of Silver Pheasant, picking flowers with bees and butterflies, walking of old bear, cockerel fighting frame, monkey breaking grain, Eagle flapping wings, and some postures of people's production and labor. Brown fan dance reflects Hani's memory of their ancestors' migration history and retains the traditional gene of Hani culture.
The main accompaniment instruments of brown fan dance are cowhide drum, Chuan, cymbal, suona, Sanxian, etc.
Brown fan dance is a kind of singing and dancing art of Hani nationality, which integrates singing, dancing, music and bionic performance. It has distinctive characteristics and high traditional cultural value.
