The Dong folk story zhulang niangmei originated from Guzhou (now Rongjiang County, Guizhou Province), then spread to the Dong areas in Liping, Congjiang and other counties in Guizhou Province, and then spread to Sanjiang, Longsheng, Rongshui, Hunan Tongdao and other Dong inhabited counties in Guangxi.

Zhulang niangmei tells a touching love story between the hardworking and plain young man zhulang and the clever and beautiful girl niangmei. She was adapted into Dong folk art and Dong opera, and made into a stage art film of the same name, which was shown nationwide.

It penetrates into various forms of Dong literature and art works and becomes the representative of Dong traditional folk art works. It has a great educational role for Dong People's future generations and has important research value in ethnology, folklore, linguistics, ethics, aesthetics and inter ethnic cultural and artistic exchanges.
