Introduction to Korean Crane Dance:
Applicant: Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture, Jilin Province
Crane Dance is a kind of national dance originated in Korea and has been introduced into China for 100 years. It was originally a kind of interleaved performance form in the large-scale palace song and dance. During the period of Li Dynasty, new changes in the performance of Crane Dance appeared. Two cranes danced around two lotus flowers, forming an independent "crane lotus dance". After it was introduced into China, folk artists reprocessed and reorganized the performance form, which was more perfect and deeply loved by the masses. In the early days of the founding of new China, it was popularized in all counties and cities in Yanbian area. At present, Crane Dance is widely spread in Antu County, southwest of Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture, Jilin Province.
The style of Korean Crane Dance is simple, soft and outstretched. The movement rhythm and movement are obviously characterized by imitating the shape of crane. During the performance, two dancers dress up as cranes, and simulate the crane's leisurely posture and movements such as hanging neck, pecking fish and swinging arms, circling around the two lotus flowers.
Crane Dance is the only bird mask dance in Korean folk dance, which reflects Korean people's belief in crane and their ardent pursuit of goodness and beauty. Crane Dance is a vivid witness of cultural inheritance, dissemination and re creation. At present, this kind of folk dance has been in a critical situation, lack of inheritance, and is in urgent need of rescue and protection.
