Gaotai lion dance is a unique traditional folk dance in Pengshui, Chongqing. It has a history of about 150 years and has a great influence among the local people.
In Pengshui, lion dance can be divided into ground lion dance and high platform lion dance. Ground lion dance is mainly used in daily festivals, birthdays, weddings, funerals, weddings, opening ceremonies and other activities. The lion dance on the stage is mostly used for major festivals and competitions, and is often combined with the ground lion dance. The most important part is the aerial performance: using a square table to set up a stage, at least 7 pieces, generally 15 pieces, more than 24 pieces, and the limit is 108 pieces. Under the guidance of the instructor, the performers of lion dance, dressed in a two meter long colored lion pattern, step on the rhythm of gongs, big drums, small drums, cymbals, hinges and other loudspeakers, from the first floor to the highest level (called "yizhuoxiang").
During the performance on each floor, the lion goes through each square table. In the "one stick of incense", there will be lion playing and stake setting performances. There are many performing routines in the high stage lion dance, such as pedaling Huang Donger, driving sheep horn pile, turning over the kite, pulling chain to cover the crutch, turning over the sky seal, yellow dragon winding waist, cows trapped in the pond, dog even crotch, pulling the sea to lie on the dog, drilling circle, lion grabbing the embroidered ball, walking on the bench and so on.
